Uttarakhand CM Dhami Mourns Death After Cloudburst in Chamoli, Orders Swift Relief Operations

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday expressed deep grief over the death of a young woman who was buried under debris following a cloudburst in Chamoli district’s Tharali area late Friday night.

The Chief Minister also expressed concern over reports of one person missing and prayed for his safety. Acting on his instructions, teams from the police, disaster management department, and district administration immediately launched rescue and relief efforts at the site.

The cloudburst in Toonri Gadera of Tharali tehsil brought heavy debris into Tharali market and nearby areas, damaging multiple houses, including the residence of the Sub-Divisional Magistrate. Several shops and vehicles were also buried.

CM Dhami also spoke with local public representatives and the area’s MLA, urging them to remain on the ground and coordinate closely with the administration. He appealed for community cooperation in the relief and rescue operations.

Confirming the incident on X, Dhami wrote, “Late last night, a tragic report of a cloudburst was received in Tharali area of Chamoli. The district administration, SDRF, and police are engaged in relief and rescue operations. I am in constant contact with the local administration and personally monitoring the situation. I pray to God for everyone’s safety.”
